@Crow T. Robot My friend just got that 2nd round interview! It seems you're right and they're having applicants fly to Durham for a weekend to do in-person interviews.

Give yourself time! They emailed my friend after conventional working hours so anything is possible

The email is directed individually, only first name in the salutation, so it doesn't seem like a mass one.

any news? Looking at past years, it seems like decisions ought to have been made a couple weeks back but I've yet to hear anything.

My application still says "Submitted" but considering that both acceptance and waitlists have been notified, I'm assuming that if you haven't heard anything then you can probably mark it as a rejection. At least, that's how I'm treating it.

Pretty sure all acceptances went out! They had a visiting week and all.
