Just looking for a few thoughts on this! One of my programs said that they would "mail decision letters" end of February to early March. Great - I'm happy to wait.

Except I'm flying across the country March 6 to the same city where this institution is for vacation! I don't really want, nor can I afford, to make the cross-country trip twice (once for this vacation, and once to visit the campus/faculty). Should I contact the department about admissions decisions in case I somehow got in and can make a visit to meet some people during my trip? Or just wait for them to mail official letters and hope something arrives in advance of my flight? I don't want to be a bother but it'd be great to know before I leave...

Not sure what to do! Any advice is much appreciated.

Well, I'm not entirely sure, and I don't know if this advice is redundant (since you said "email" in your title), but if you do contact them I'd suggest emailing instead of calling. That way you can explain everything neatly instead of having to make it brief on the phone and coming across as impatient due to an abridged explanation.

I emailed three schools about my status. None of them responsed. However I'm glad that I have emailed them instead of passively waiting to hear from them. I really don't think a call or an email will alter their decision. As long as you do it politely and professionally I'd say go for it.

I agree. Send the e-mail. smile.gif

I agree, go ahead and explain the situation. As long as they haven't already rejected you it'd be worth it to visit IMO.
