Hey guys,

After getting rejected from 3 Phd programs in social anthropology from r1 schools, I've decided to go to the MAPSS program at Uchicago. I applied directly as a back-up and had little intention of actually going, but I was offered a full scholarship. Is anyone else going?

there are other threads in the forum discussing MAPSS (and Chicago's humanities program, too). most people who chime in haven't actually been through the program and classify it as a "cash cow" program that they expect is ultimately useless. fortunately, there have been graduates of the programs who have experienced otherwise and found the program to be a useful tool for constructing a more focused background and future. graduates have said that a more focused and solid background allows them better success for applying to PhD programs at the U of Chicago as well as other at other schools.

if my tuition were paid for, i would take the MAPSS opportunity in a heartbeat (especially if i had no other academic options). i mean, you'll have to pay for your living expenses at this point no matter what you do. you might as well get a U of Chicago education while you're at it!

good luck and congrats on earning a full tuition waiver for the program! not many students do that.

oh, and check out those other threads that discuss the interdisciplinary programs at U of Chicago.
