MPA / MPP / Phd Policy Admissions 2008

Has anyone who applied to UT Austin LBJ for a PhD in Public Policy heard back from the school? The online status of my application still says "Your application has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review". Also, I did see a couple of results posted - 1 reject and 1 accepted. They haven't given any timeline as well. Do they communicate the decision only by snail mail? I am an international student, and it that's the case then it may take some more time.

I am itching to write to them and ask.

Why don't you? Is that disadvantageous?

Good Luck. I only asked because some people find that contacting schools about your status is not always a great thing to do, for a variety of legitimate reasons. But I figure, unless they say don't contact them for that reason, I would go ahead and do it, especially if it's a top choice for you.

I didn't apply to LBJ, as my graduate (JD program inclusive) school hopes and dreams kind of lie with Georgetown right now, with GW as a close second.

Hi unknownscholar,

I actually got through GWU, but have been waitlisted for a fellowship..whatever that means. I see no reason why someone, esp an international student like me, would spend a fortune to get a PhD. How can they even expect that! Another thing that is bothering me about GWU is that I haven't heard great things about the school on this forum.

I also have an admit from Maryland and they are offering me funding. But the exact figures have not yet been sent to me. I am just hoping for some good news from them. Fingers crossed!

LBJ is actually quite high on my list. Geographical location apart, I think it's a great school with great faculty. That's why I am getting a bit anxious about the result.

I wish you luck and hope that you get into the school of your choice.

I too haven't heard wonderful things about GWU on this forum either, but I think that's mostly because many people compare them to Georgetown since it's right up the street and is higher ranked across the board. But GWU is also ranked for a reason, both for the grad program (top 20) and the JD program (top 25), so that's enough for me. Not to mention the fact that its a reputable DC school which is where I want to build my career, so it isn't a bad choice for me.

I have an affinity for Georgetown after spending a few months there and becoming familiar with both the students and the general atmosphere. just fell in love with it. The prestige of having a Gtown degree, especially if you work in DC, is an added bonus.

I called WWS today asking about the Ph.D. program but it looks like Ph.D. and M.P.A. all appear to go out at the same time. They said we'd hear by Friday.

Judging from the last two years on GradCafe it looks like admits go out the first day and then its all rejections thereafter. Let's hope since they started today late, tomorrow morning will have some good news too. Otherwise, today may have been the day.

Wait until 100 people log in and say they have received acceptance letters before you decide you haven't gotten in...I applied there too and a number of other schools. How I was notified was fairly random. I'm very anxious and I think we all only have about a 1/2 percent chance of getting in...

Two people stating that they got in just seems...well...there would be more people stating they had/had not gotten in already. Plus, isn't the rejection like a group email to everyone who didn't get in all at once? There will be plenty of teed off people here or at autoadmit (where I recognize your moniker) stating that they were hoping to win the lotto.

Best of luck!

No way to know for certain but I wouldn't expect to see all that many admits posted either way. In each of the past two years, there has been only one or two admits posted on GradCafe.

In any case, I hope I'm wrong and there are lots more to come. Best of luck to everyone.

A lot of people have posted acceptances to WWS. I feel like that means we are rejected. I know we don't know for "sure" but ...

no idea...but i wouldn't say "a lot" because all i see so far is 5 people saying they've been accepted (of course, given the sample size here, that might be it...so again, who knows?)

I have been offered a place at Harris School for MPP program. I have also been offered $20455 Dean's Scholarship. But i wont be needing that as i am coming to states on Fulbright Scholarhsip.

Haven't heard from Berkeley, Ford & KSG yet.

Can any one tell me how is Harris School viewed if compared with Ford School if one wants to pursue a dual degree?
