I'm not usually a bitter person, but it does bother me that I know a school made up their mind a month ago (*cough* *cough* Columbia) and still hasn't officially rejected me.

I get it - we aren't a great match - but at least be considerate enough to TELL ME!!!!

Anyone else have some inconsiderate schools on their app list?

I'm currently frustrated with one school whose website says admissions decisions will be released at the end of February, and who has not (as far as I know) contacted anyone. The same school is also apparently opposed to responding to emails. I tried emailing back in the fall with a question about a writing sample and then a few days ago about the timeline for admissions decisions and both times....nothing. Grrrr so frustrating!!!

I went and visited Columbia when I was shopping around for graduate programs this year. I crossed it off my list, mostly because of that type of attitude! It's a good school, but there are a lot of problems and politics in many of the departments (at least in liberal arts). I think of this as something to avoid and would rather not spend the $90 or whatever it is to apply. I'm still waiting to officially hear from NYU even though I'm sure at this point it's a done deal.

Wow, I was about to go write something along these on Duke's page. What's going on? They ask for a writing sample, don't contact me for an interview, yet don't reject me in the first round, either. Argh! I know I'm probably going to be rejected, but dragging it out like this allows me to retain a little bit of hope, and it's killing me!

Yes, I am also very frustrated with a certain school. I know they made decisions about first round people around the 10th last month and I have not heard anything! I've just decided to move on and pretty much figure on taking up plan B. Which isn't so bad, but man! I would think a school could at least tell me something. I feel like I paid them to torture me! Oh and this certain school lost a letter of rec, too. Brilliant... oh well.

I have one, but actually two to vent. I applied to the University of Florida last year but before, along and after the process I could hardly reach them. The worst part is that they don't post the department phone number or the number of anyone in the faculty on their website, therefore the only mean of communication I had is their emails and guess what they never replied. I sent emails of inquiry to the department, the coordinator and the administrative assistant but everything was in vain.

But I decided to apply after all and I guess that was just wrong. They never informed me about the status of my application at all along the process. No rejection letter or emails after all. The only media through which I know my existence to them is through the application status page, but they did not update anything related to their relation whatsoever. And finally I decided not to even email them to ask about my fate because I knew that would just fall into silence. Really hate that department of UF.

U of Texas-Austin was also the same. Though there is one thing that is better than UF and that is the coordinator did send me an email about the complete status of my app, but that was about it. No answer and no rejection email or letters after all.

Seems like I've vented all my frustration kept since last year.

Wow! I was just having a little whine about my slow response ... but to think that somewhere just wouldn't tell you at all! That is quite shocking. After all the effort you put into the application. That really sucks.

Columbia never officially replied to me as well. The fault lies with the University GSD, I think, and not the Sociology dept.
