Aid appeal

Hey, here's an issue. I'm about to apply an appeal on my funding decision, the admissions officer told me to give a certain figure and she'll file an appeal on my behalf. I have some reservations on what to ask for. Do they give as much as they can, regardless of the sum asked, or it's a binary decision: either they give you what you asked for, or nothing at all. How careful should I be with the sum I'm asking for? Did anybody have similar experience?

Some details: Parson, Masters, offered 35% off 96k tuition, I'm going to ask for 20k more.

Were it me, I'd ask for as much as you need to attend. If they come back with a lower number, then they come back with a lower number. But, they aren't going to offer you more than you ask for in all likelihood.

Could it be a binary decision? Could they act like: we don't have as much as he needs, so there's no point in giving anything at all.

It could be but you really have no way of knowing this. It's also possible that it isn't a binary decision and by not asking for what you need, you lose out on money.
