antgirl25 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Hi All, Just wondering if any Ecology and Evolution PhD applicants have heard anything yet. I saw a couple of postings on the results, but alas, they are few and far between. To the Stony Brook applicant who posted on 1/30: when did you complete your application? Good luck everyone...I hope you're not all going as crazy as I am right now!
monking Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Has anyone received interview invitations from integrative biology program, UCBerkeley? I checked the board and found that no applicants of this program ever posted results, weird...
Fiddler_Crab Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Antgirl! I am also an ant girl...haha as in my focus is myrmecology. I am interested in invasive ant behavior (not control) Only one of the programs I applied to is actually an entomology department, the others are Ecology/Evolution. I have been accepted at Florida State University, and have upcoming interviews at Uconn and University of Illinois U/C. Good luck!
caudata Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Hey! I've noticed that there is still a lack of postings from the ecology/biology crowd. Am I the only one who's future is still up in the air? I recently found out from an insider that I am/was the top alternate at one of my schools. I fear that this is the case for all of the schools I applied to and that I'll be in this alternate-hell until mid-April. It would be nice to know if anyone has heard from the schools I've applied to so I can better judge my standing. Where I've applied: UC Davis Graduate Group in Ecology; Oregon State Zoology and Forest Science; Missouri-Columbia Biology; Pittsburgh Biology.
jonesboy6 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Hey has anyone heard anything form Brown's EEB program?
bat whisperer Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Caudata, you're definitely not the only one whose future is still up in the air. I'm still waiting to hear from three schools, who are maintaining complete silence. How many other Evo/Eco people are waiting to hear from schools--and which ones? I'm waiting to hear from - U Maryland - College Park (BEES Program) I attended their recruitment weekend in January--not a word from the committee since (I haven't even been officially waitlisted (though I'm obviously on the unofficial one) My application status is still just "pending.") - U Wisconsin - Madison (Zoology) Again, nothing. My application is "under review" according to the website, but no contact since the email from the department secretary confirming that all my application materials had arrived. - U Colorado - Boulder (EBio) Not a peep--and this one's especially nerve-wracking because UCB, unlike UW and UMD, doesn't have a website where I can obsessively check my application status. I'd love to hear if anyone else is still waiting--and which schools they're waiting on. Thanks!
pteropus Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Hi all, I'm also applying to EEB PhD programs. My experience is if you haven't heard by early February, you're probably not going to get good news. Most competitive departments invite for interviews during February/ early March and admit students by early March. Rejection letters often take longer to show up, usually around the end of March or sometime in April. My advice is that if there is still a department you haven't heard from and you think you may be waitlisted, get in touch with the professor you have spoken to there and see if there is still reason to hope. Best of luck to you all, and remember, if it doesn't work out this year, there's always next year. . . ( I actually applied last year, to too few schools, but am in at a few places this year, so another round has been entirely worth it for me).
bat whisperer Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I realize that I obviously didn't make the first cut at the schools I haven't yet heard from. I was just wondering if anyone knew whether any of these programs had moved on to their second round of acceptances.
testeruser Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Hi guys, Just trying to revive this thread a little. My record so far is one rejection, one wait list (after an interview), and I still haven't heard one way or the other from Davis. How are you guys doing?
geekgirl87 Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Yay Ecology people!!! There appear to be so few of us on these boards Here's what I have: 2 acceptances for M.S. without funding, 1 rejection, 1 acceptance Ph.D. with funding, 1 acceptance Ph.D. with vague funding situation...although most likely none.
laura510 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 oh yay! I finally found the EEB contingent. Any news yet on where you're all heading? I'm going into the Phd program at UC Davis (Graduate Group in Ecology). Applied UCD, UCSB, Stanford. (Rejected from Stanford). How are your funding offers? I know tons of people who are still waiting to hear if they'll be funded or not. I luckily got a couple years funded, but still waiting to hear on some other potential fellowships.
Siyentipikool Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 hello guys! Anybody knows about ecology and evolution program with emphasis on aquatic environments and organisms???
bhdavis1978 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 hello guys! Anybody knows about ecology and evolution program with emphasis on aquatic environments and organisms??? THe University of Toronto has a quite a large number of ecologists who are interested in fisheries biology, and, at least when I was there, at least two limnologists, so that's a place to check out. Oh, and Toronto kicks ass. It's comparable in size to Chicago, but much less crime.
