Issue Topics To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. Essay Starts Here: In order to understand a society, only studying its major cities is not a feasible way, rather studying the rural areas is more justifiable. Most of the people of a society live in rural areas. A person of a society represents the characteristics of that society. Therefore, to understand a society one must employ to study its people. Though most of the important business transection and official work take place in major cities, most of the production takes place in the rural areas. Some examples are: if paddy is the major production in a country then it is understood that that society’s main food source is rice. Again if there are too many rivers, then fish must be one of the major sources of food and boat must be the main transportation medium. Also it can be understood that the profession of major people must be farming and fishing. Someone may come to a conclusion that a society must be developed in economies by judging tall buildings and amenities the cities provide. But the truth might not be the same. It is possible that the rural area of the society is not developing and most of the wealth is only used to develop the urban part while the major part i.e. rural areas stay undeveloped. Therefore, to understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study not only the major cities but also rural parts.
