Hi All,

What are the best PhD programs for Journalism and then for Communications?

Is there somewhere these things are posted? I know I can ask the people in my department, but I'd like to know if there is a ranking system out there to which we can refer.

This is a difficult question Sputnik. There are different rankings out there but nothing like US News and World Report. Also, by Journalism, I assume you mean PHD programs in Mass Comm? For both communication and mass comm you could possibly use the National Communication Association Rankings, but I don't put too much credence in those because some of the most well-regarded programs in the U.S. refused to take part in the NCA study. Along the same lines, different programs are known for different areas. For example, if you are interested in Media and Politics you would probably want to look at Ohio State, Penn State, LSU, and some others. Those same programs, however, may not rank as high if one is interested in say, Civic Journalism, Online Media, or Media Law. It is VERY difficult to rank programs in Mass Comm.
