Gus Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 I've seen a couple responses for Marquette posted. I guess I'll be waiting over the weekend for my letter to reach the East Coast - any info people are willing to share would help calm my weekend nerves. Acceptances - did you hear about funding? Rejections - any word on the number of applicants, strength of the pool, etc? I'm feeling pretty pessimistic since it seems to be a tough year all around, but would appreciate hearing any more details relating to Marquette (this is my last application still out). Thanks much! Best of luck to everyone!

Best of luck to everyone! Gus, My rejection letter from Marquette arrived today (on the West Coast). It doesn't say anything about strength of the pool or number of applicants...just says that some area of my application does not meet admission requirements and to strengthen my credentials if I hope to reapply. Good luck to you!

Good luck to you! Many thanks. I can imagination those comments would be much more helpful if they named the areas that need to be strengthened, but such is the fate of generic letters. The nail biting continues. Good luck to you with your studies at SLU!

Good luck to you! Perhaps this is my naivete, but if you were accepted at Baylor, Wheaton, then what the heck? (Again, some serious naivete here.) What more is required? Congratulations for being accepted at some great programs. Bummed about Marquette- we are on the west coast as well, and fortunately, no letters have been received to our address yet, but no phone calls either. I'm not at home with my husband right now, so he's had to go to the mailbox for Fri/Sat without me (being vulnerable here!). I'm glad I'll be home soon for whatever news is a' comin when I get home for the Monday mail. Still in hope for some late but good news. If no rejections, then is there still a chance, like at Boston U.? Okay, off to watch Zombieland and have a semblance of a normal weekend.

Gus Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 Well, I got my rejection letter today. It stated that my requirements were "acceptable" but that there were too many qualified applicants.

I assume mine will come around 4 today, down in Florida. There hasn't been a single acceptance on the results page. I kind of wonder if they contacted admittees by phone earlier, none of whom partake of gradcafe.

Well, with 254 views on this conversation, methinks there may be some folks out there who aren't as prone to forum commenting as we are. Hope everyone has a good day today!

thekidisalright Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Or it is the same three or four of us neurotically refreshing every 3 minutes... There were also at least two of us deferring from last year, which took away from total admits (and admits posting on gradcafe).
origenes Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 To the one who was waitlisted for funding on the results page, whom did you e-mail in the department? And did they say letters had gone out? Any other information on the waitlist?
thumbnail72 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 To those for whom it is relevant, I was one of the folks who got in last year and deferred. Well, I found out a couple of days ago that they're not going to offer me funding, so chances are good I'm not moving to Milwaukee. I'm pretty bummed about it but I suppose that's just how it goes, right? I sure wish schools wouldn't tease us like that, though; it doesn't seem right to let someone in and then leave them in a position where they can't afford to take advantage of the opportunity. Oh, well. God is sovereign.
