reallyscareeed Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Hey guys! I'm an undergraduate senior majoring in statistical science at Duke, and I'm planning on applying to the east asian masters programs at Berkeley, Princeton, Harvard, and UCLA next year (going to prep for the GRE and figure out what I want to do). The thing is, my undergraduate GPA is a low 3.1, and I'm extremely worried that I'm just going to flat out get rejected. Do you think it's pretty much game over for me to pursue my masters at these graduate programs, especially since I have no publications and barely any research experience? I've heard that masters programs typically have a lower bar as financial aid is a bit tight for academia, but financial aid isn't much of an issue for me. Would be much appreciated if someone could fill me in with some realistic insight. Thanks for reading.
rising_star Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 How and why did you pick these programs? Is it based on their prestige or because of a good fit with the faculty's work and an interest in the course offerings? If it's solely the former, you're in trouble. Your language experience will be a factor in your admissions, as will you recommendation letters and your statement of purpose.
