Hello Everyone

I was accepted to these great schools for their biochemistry program. I feel that I could "fit" in at either school. The departments are small enough so that I will get to know mostly everyone, they have a wealth of resources, and both schools are ranked highly. What should I do :0( (tear)? Also my mentor believes that epigenetic research is the new wave of the future. Both schools seem to have research labs in epigenetics.

Info about me:

Graduated with a BS in Biochemistry and a BA in chemistry. Am currently in medical school and plan to take a leave of absence to complete a PhD in biochemistry. I am from a Southern state and a change to the North would be nice, however, being somewhat close to my parents and family is also really important.

Thanks for any Advice Offered!!!

It sounds like everything about the programs are equal, so you should base your decision off of where you'd rather be. How far is your family from Duke? Will you be traveling by plane, car, train or bus to visit? I am going to school at Duke right now, and I frequently make the trip home to MD to visit my family by car, and I wish I could be closer. But Duke is a wonderful place, so I chose to come here.

As far as education, research and career, you are making a good decision either way.

Have you visited both places in person? That might sway you one way or another. If you have and it's still equal, go with whichever place is in a nicer city. :D It really doesn't seem like you can make a wrong decision.

I had a chance to visit both schools and really liked them both. However, I think Duke is probably a better fit. Thanks Everyone for your advice and Good luck in your endeavors!!!!

If Duke is the better fit, then go to Duke. Simple as that, provided the money is good and you like the potential advisor and lab.
