Hello everyone,

I am having a trouble and I hope I may get the answer from the Gradcafe. I am a master student at a university in the United States. Last month, I was accepted to a mechanical engineering PhD program starting in August 2018. When I was applying to schools, I expected to graduate in August. However, due to some reasons, I could not fulfill the course requirement for my master degree(my final GPA will be 3.5). Thus, it is very likely that I cannot graduate with a master from my current institute. When I applied for the PhD program of the new school, I told them I would be graduating in August and I submitted all my transcript up to that point. If I cannot graduate this summer from my current school, will I still be able to enroll in the new program with my bachelor. Thank you so much for your information.

If a Master's degree is a requirement for entry to the program, or if the new school accepted to you on the basis of believing that you would have your master's degree by the time you join, then it sounds like you will not be able to go.

However, your best option for getting answers is to get in touch with the new school directly and ask.

My advice is to do whatever it takes to finish your master's degree though. It sounds like you were very close. What happened?
