What happens when you fail to get a job after PhD?

I am thinking of applying for PhD in finance in US.

As an international student, I am very worried I might fail to get a job in a university after my PhD. 

So my questions are...

1. How often does it - finance PhD failing to get a job in universities- happen?

2. What are some other options if that happens?
