palyndrone Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Due to some weird, long-winded circumstances and because I live in the UK as an international student, I have to take the GRE in 4 days with almost no prior knowledge. I've got links to Number2 and Magoosh and Khanacademy all lined up for a good 96 hours of steamrolling before my fate is sealed. Before I do--what are the things I absolute have to do to prep? If I do nothing else, what are the most important items on my to-do list? Bonus for anybody who can find a list of non-GRE-requiring grad schools that I've seen alluded to on this forum. I know Chicago and Pitt's bio programs don't, but those are pretty lofty goals
PokePsych Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 ETS has the practice exams. Go through one to know what you can expect (not saying you have to take the complete thing). I'd also check how GRE AWA is graded and maybe get one or two practice questions from the ETS website. Other than that, what are your strenghts and weaknesses? If you're good at English, I'd let that go - thats what I did (got 88th percentile in the end). Maths has been my weak point, so I mainly focused on the quant section. palyndrone 1
palyndrone Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 Thank you, I 'bought' the free practice tests on ETS--that'll probably be the best thing to do for practice. Quant is apparently my weak point too because it takes me so long to remember the methods. After all my stats classes I never thought that it would be eighth grade linear algebra that would trip me up in the end.
Brent@GreenlightGRE Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 So, how did your test go, palyndrone?
palyndrone Posted October 28, 2018 Author Posted October 28, 2018 (edited) Overall I think I did okay! I scored 163 V/ 155 Q / 4.0 A Not blowing the boards out of the water, but above 50% in all categories and not bad for 4 days cramming free practice tests. Edited October 28, 2018 by palyndrone
