Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison, MS ECE Fall 2010

Hi all,

I have just joined this forum. I have received admit for MS (without aid) from Wisconsin-Madison in ECE. I am planning to study Computer Architecture (CA). I have few questions regarding funding and future job prospects at Wisconsin.

1) Does anyone know about the funding scenario in the CA group? If I pay for my first year fees, what are chances of getting any TA/RA funding for second year at Wisconsin?

2) Which companies come for campus recruitment in CA? What is the average/maximum starting salaries in this field? I checked the university website (https://ecs.engr.wisc.edu/public/student/offers.php). They have very few datapoints about ECE (just 5 offers) to make any intelligent decision.

My profile is as follows:

UG: IIT Bombay (India) in Electrical Engg. (CGPA=8.39)

Work Exp.: Aug'08-present in Texas Instruments (India)

GRE: 1560

TOEFL: 108

Any help will be very useful.

Hello - I got two Master's Degrees from UW-Madison. I was an "in-state student".

That is what I know -

If you come to Wisconsin simply for pursuing your further education, you have to pay for the "out-of state" tuition not only the first year, but years of the entire program. For instance, if you are coming to Wisconsin to pursue your PhD, you will have to pay four years "out-of-state" tuition fees unless you receive some kinds of scholarships, fellowships, or graduate assistantships. You can check with the Office of Registrar via the Uw-Madison website.
