Thales Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) I was recently admitted to one of the top graduate programs for my field of interest -- however, I am also waiting on the results of my applications to professional school (which likely won't be released until after the mid-April deadline I was given). My hope is to defer professional school and take the graduate degree. I'm wondering if there is any potential harm in requesting a possible extension to further consider my options? Any insights? Anyone with experiences to share? Edited March 23, 2010 by Thales
Thales Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Also, do I have to disclose the reasons for which I'm requesting an extension? It shouldn't be a problem, but I don't want to instigate any awkward moments.
origin415 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I think it would be best to ask them, just saying that you have another program which you don't expect to hear from in time, would it be possible to get an extension. I don't see how that could get awkward, its not your fault the other school hasn't responded.
Thales Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Thanks for the quick reply origin415. The problem, I think, isn't that I'm waiting on results from other graduate schools - but rather, that I'm now waiting on the results of professional (law) school applications. I've already been admitted to the top academic program within my discipline. I'm just worried that they may question my committment to the program/faculty if I don't accept by the offer deadline.
