Has anyone actually been accepted to Marquette AND received funding? If so, how was the package?

I have been accepted, but I only know that because the director of admissions told me over email. She couldn't tell me anything else. I am still awaiting my actual letter of acceptance to tell me whether or not I've gotten funding. Based on what I've seen in the results page, I'm guessing I shouldn't get my hopes up.

So, who's going to Marquette?

I was accepted last year without funding, deferred, and was turned down for funding again this year. As I understand it, this is the norm for Marquette. Personally, I find it more than a little maddening and somewhat less than charitable. It is quite the tease to offer someone one admission to your school and leave them with essentially no recourse to accept it (without going into massive debt, that is). Thankfully I was offered funding at SMU and so will probably end up there. I think Marquette is a better fit for my research interests but have gone into debt enough at Duke.

Not that I'm bitter or anything. :)

Ha...i hear ya.

That is so odd about Marquette. I talked with Steve Long in September and he told me that they are able to fund about half of their students. But based on what I've seen on here that doesn't seem to be the case. Or maybe I'm just hanging out with the wrong people. But do you know anyone who has actually gotten funding? Was it substantial?

I am probably going to have to make a decision between Baylor and Marquette. Baylor came through with a very good offer, I just hope Marquette puts up a fight. I would love to study with Steve Long or Therese Lysaught. Too bad...

Just heard from Marquette. No funding available at this time. Oh well, looks like Baylor it is!

Yeah, mysterious. I was told by the DGS via email that I did not get in. But then today I finally got the snail-mail notification and inside is an offer of admission. Random! No funding though. I still have not come across a single Marquette applicant who got funding.....

I was just offered funding (off of the waitlist). I am ecstatic. This was my only acceptance so I will be taking them up on their offer. Hello Milwaukee!

Congrats eskidd! That is very impressive! Who are you hoping to work with?

Enjoy Milwaukee. It's a pretty cool city.

Thanks flynn! I'm looking forward to working with a lot of folks in systematics--Del Colle, Dabney, Long--but since I'm a Rahner buff I am really excited to work with Masson.
