PoliSciGirl Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 So I applied to George Mason -- Public Policy and they say it takes six weeks to get a letter from them and this is my reach school. I have a 3.27 GPA and 3.48 in major and a year work experience in the non-profit world, but before my current school I was an opera performance major and pretty much failed out because my mom passed away a week before starting school. I wrote and addendum, but the waiting is killing me. I know they say 6 weeks, but can anyone tell me how long it took them to receive their letter from GMU? I at least got accepted to Penn State (my backup school) for their MPA.
martizzle Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 i applied to GMU (IT/engr/OR dept)...and today, they let me know that my app wasn't complete! So i mailed in the material they asked for (a transcript) again! idk know what to think at this point....do i have a chance of getting in? i don't know if anyone else has heard back from them, but...idk...the waiting is killing me too
killerbees Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I also applied to GMU's School of Public Policy for F2010. I checked with the Admissions people and was told the same thing, within 6 weeks from the point at which the application is complete. I started mine last year (!) but never submitted it until recently. As I'm still waiting to hear back from Georgetown (not holding out much hope at this point) and I've been waitlisted at the other schools to which I applied, GMU represents the last, most realistic chance I have of getting in somewhere. My GPA is about 3.4, I've got a few years of overseas experience, and my GREs were good (nearly 1400), so I think I should be fine for GMU, but... I suppose there's always the chance that I won't get in there either. Chilling.
JenanH Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 GMU informed me at the beginning of march that they did not receive a letter of recommendation that I mailed a month prior. I finally have everything sorted out now, phew. Don't give up on GMU though, I know that a number of programs have yet to send out their acceptance letters. I'm hoping to hear this week or next.
PoliSciGirl Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 My application was only completed about 2 1/2 weeks ago, but I'm an impatient person. I don't think I will get in because of my low 3.27 GPA so I ended up sending my yes notification to Penn State already.

Why didn't you get your recommender's to send them electronically? I had mine send it through the system and e-mail it to the school directly. Janet, the secretary, told me that e-mailing it to the school directly would be the best bet.
killerbees Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I think my complete application and other materials (recommendation I was waiting on) were all in on the 9th of March. I received notification by regular old Pony Express mail on April 10, a good two weeks before I expected to hear anything.
