Visitation weekend invite 10 minutes after application was submitted?

Question

Posted

Hi all,

Finally decided to stop lurking here just to validate what I've been thinking. I had quite a strange experience with one of my programs. The deadline was January 15th, and I had every part of my application in since the start of December save for one letter. On the day of the deadline, my advisor got my last letter in. She texted me when she submitted it. I didn't receive an automated email as I did for the rest of my letters. Instead, I was surprised not even 10 minutes later with what seemed to be a non-automated email inviting me to an all expenses paid visiting weekend by the grad coordinator. I hastily accepted the opportunity.

I don't want to overthink things, but I should probably take this as a good sign, right? Additionally, even though it doesn't say the word interview anywhere, I should probably prepare for and treat this as an "interview-but-not", especially since I will be meeting 2 on 1 with potential advisors, right?

Thanks!

Most schools don't call them interviews. They're "recruitment weekends".

Sounds like they may have looked at your application already and just waited for it to be completed with the letter of rec.
