Accepted to program with no funding details yet - when should I follow up?

Question

I was accepted to UMN by a phone call with the department chair last Wednesday. He mentioned travel funding being available for a campus tour in late March, but said more details on funding/assistantship placement would be given later on -- perhaps even as late as the campus tour dates. Their website used to say that the program offers full tuition remission, health benefits, and stipends to all admitted students, but this has been removed from their site since applications closed.

Is it normal not to have funding information available right away? When should I be following up on this (without seeming too pushy)?

well, if you have multiple offers and you need to decide, it's fair to ask. However, it may as well be that they don't have the exact numbers YET.

Funding decisions often come out of the dean's office. Departments get the budget when they get it. IMHO, asking about it now will serve absolutely no purpose, since you were already told the decisions might come as late as March.
