Grad Panic Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Some of you may have already seen this, but in this time of rejection/ admission stress and making decisions about our schools, I thought others could use a laugh: March 27, 2010 Herbert A Millington Chair - Graduate Studies Committee Whatsa Matta University College Hill, MA 01610 Dear XXX, Thank for your letter of March 16. After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me admission to your department. This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field of candidates it is impossible for me to accept all refusals. Despite W.M.U.'s outstanding qualifications and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at this time. Therefore, I will join the ranks of graduate students in your department this September. I look forward to seeing you then. Best of luck in rejecting future applicants. Sincerely, [your name here] dant.gwyrdd, whistler, SansSociety and 1 other 4
tarski Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I like it . I actually encountered the reverse of this on a blog (response to an acceptance rather than response to a rejection) : http://philosophersanon.blogspot.com/2010/03/declining-your-offer.html Dear Program, Thank you very much for your offer of admission. However, due to the incredible volume of acceptances I have received, I am unable to offer you matriculation at this time. I received over 4 offers of admission, and as often happens, there are more qualified programs than there are places I can occupy at a given time. Best of luck in the future, Joe Philosophy. dant.gwyrdd 1
