What should I do if the assigned advisor does not reply my email?

Hi,

I got accepted into a university which I really want to go. The department has assigned me an academic advisor and the department wants me to reach out to the advisor as soon as possible to discuss the study plan, course selection, and potential funding/research opportunities. I sent a polite email to my advisor two days ago but got no response from his end? What should I do? Any thoughts? My advisor is the POI I mentioned in my personal statement and he is also the chair of the admission committee. We have short correspondence before I submit my application. Now I am wondering if he really wants to take me into his lab.

it's been two days. A lot of things could be going on (especially considering he's head of the admission committee). i'd wait a bit longer and if you don't get a reply to a follow up I'd say email some administrative person - often they can pull some strings.
