Jun Zhao Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Hi everyone, I have been admitted to Stanford EE PhD program, but without financial aid. I received the email on Feb. 24, 2010. Does anyone know do I still have opportunity to get financial support from Stanford? I have no alternate financial sources to support my PhD study. Thanks everyone for your kind reply. I deeply appreciate your help. Please feel free to contact me. Thanks! My email is jun9zhao@gmail.com.
mojojojo Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 What other schools have you gotten into? How is your funding there? Any offers of TA or RA?

You still have an opportunity to secure funding, but those decisions will come only after April 15th. If any student with aid rejects Stanford's offer, they will distribute those funds to others. In the meantime, it might be wise to evaluate your other options.

Thanks, my other offers all ask me to reply before April 15th... It's so expensive for PhD study in Stanford EE without financial aid.

Yeah, it is really expensive. And so are most top private schools. Btw, I've rejected a EE fellowship offer. So, that's one freed up already. All the best for your grad career.

dogoodwork Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Why they make decisions only after April 15th rather than when there are additional fundings in case that some guys decline their offers? stanfordian Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I think your have very rare opportunity to get fund from Stanford EE. The department distributes too much admissions without financial aids. Two years ago, one of my friend also faced with a situation like yours. He was admitted to Stanford EE without funding, and got an offer from Cornell. He decided to accept Cornell's offer and decline Stanford's admission without funding. Actually I see almost no persons obtain fundings from Stanford EE after April 15. All the best to your graduate career. Good luck in decision making . Hi everyone, I have been admitted to Stanford EE PhD program, but without financial aid. I received the email on Feb. 24, 2010. Slorg Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) I just rejected my Stanford funding as well, so maybe you'll get some tomorrow (from people like me who wait until the last minute to commit). Also, I know for sure that extra funding is given out before April 15. So unlike what some other posts said, it doesn't all necessarily happen after April 15. Edited April 15, 2010 by Slorg

dogoodwork Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Thank you, and to whoever else may have rejected it, because I just got offered it! I still have not heard any information on funding. Is there anybody receive a fellowship after April 15? Ten days have already passed.

I called them on 19th, Monday, morning and was told that if funding hasn't been assured in the email notifying the decision, then most likely there wouldn't be any funding as they had used up all fellowship money! :-(

That is, unless there is one prof at Stanford you really, really want to work for.
