Phd epidemiology .is it worth it..

Hello everyone. 

I am an international student.  I am currently working as a medical doctor in a rural setting and want to get into research.  I am leaning towards my two favorite topics / subjects.  Epidemiology  and other other is Neuroscience. Epidemiology / some has always been easy for me,  it's like reading a novel and I love the kind of work organizations like WHO / MSF do and hope to someday work for them.  I am unsure of other prospects in epidemiology however.  Most of the discussions talk about how lowly paid epidemiologists are,  and let's be honest,  money matters too.  

On the other hand Neuroscience,  my other love seem to open amazing opportunities.  

So what do u say guys,  is epidemiology worth it?  Are the job offers good...?
