waitingforfall Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 One would assume that most people who have been waitlisted have also been accepted somewhere. Not me. I have 2 waitlists and no admits, meaning I'm either going to have a very happy end-of-April or that I simply get to enjoy the pain of rejection for an extra-long amount of time. Am I the only one? I know, I KNOW I shouldn't complain, but this is downright agony. No closure--can't make concrete plans for fall, nor can I close the book on the '09-'10 app season. I'm still waiting... I'm still waiting...
EddySpenz Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I'm in the exact same situation. Just have to wait and see what happens...
Beck Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I'm not waitlisted for positions, but I am in limbo on funding and not that optimistic. I went 0/6 on the PhD programmes I applied for, but two of them offered MA positions instead - one is totally unfunded (not going) and the second is talking about trying to find me a TAship, but time is running out before the decision deadline. The other offer I'm sitting on is an MA in gender studies that I'm wildly excited about, but funding guaranteed only for the second year ("we'll do everything we can to find you a TAship when you arrive"). I'm waiting as long as I can, in the hope that a miracle occurs, but who knows what'll happen. If I lived in the States I'd go for it, but I have to prove I can cover the costs of a year of study before I can get a visa. Sigh. I would genuinely rather have struck out across the board than be in this position, where I'm staring down the barrel of declining offers (and postponing dreams, and various other melodramatic things) because of money. It's depressing as hell.
Bumblebee9 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 10 days . . . If yes, it was worth the wait. If no, I'd rather have been denied right away.
windycitystudent Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 One strong wait-list position that's all. I'm waiting right along with you to the bitter end.
pouic Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I'm on two wait-lists too. I decided I would say no to one anyway. So just waiting for the other... I'm sick waiting. Ugh! Been doing it since December now. Nothing worse than this. I hear you all.
EddySpenz Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Hang in there, folks! I was just admitted off of a waitlist today! Don't give up hope!
LiteratureMajor Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 One strong wait-list position that's all. I'm waiting right along with you to the bitter end. Same here, windycitystudent. I understand that those with multiple offers need to be cautious in making their decisions, but some people at my top choice are waiting until the eleventh hour to decide when I would accept this position within minutes of getting the offer. There's nothing more I can do at this point but wait, right? I've already sent a cordial thank-you note expressing my continued interest in the program and stating I would be accepting should I get an offer. peppermint.beatnik Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 waiting to be accepted off wait-list too. I keep visualizing the e-mail informing me of the good news.

I noticed the "-1" with this comment and wanted to clarify that I don't mean to offend anyone. I just wanted to express how it feels to be in a high position on a waitlist but still uncertain whether I will ultimately be accepted or rejected. I've never been on a waitlist before and this is new territory for me. So please know that it is never my intent to insult or offend any fellow applicants. That is a kind gesture and much appreciated. I tried to vote you up as well but reached my maximum for today. So many great comments that deserve a bump, you know. I'll remember you tomorrow though.
