Hi all!

I'm a 24-year-old Canadian female who graduated from university in 2016 (BA in psychology and linguistics). My goal has always been to become a speech-language pathologist, which is the reason that I chose to major in linguistics. I also completed the Communicative Disorders Assistant program after university which only confirmed my desire to work in this field. I do want to aim higher and be able to get my masters, though. Currently beginning to panic a little about my career- I've been working in the school board as an educational assistant for the past two years with children with special needs, but this is not a career for me. I would like to apply for my masters, but I feel that my GPA isn't very competitive- my cGPA is only 3.48 (mainly because of a rough second year), and my subGPA is 3.63. I did get all As in my last year of university. Also, since I've been out of university for 3 years, I don't feel like I would be able to get strong academic reference letters.

I was accepted to University of Queensland for SLP in Australia a couple of years ago, but the cost is SO expensive that I decided not to go at that time. I did apply to McMaster with low hopes and did not get in. I'm wondering what some options are for me... I was looking into UVM as it is close to Canada, seems like a good program, and I would be able to get strong reference letters from SLPs and other educational personnel that I have worked with over the years. I also saw their online pre masters program, but feel like it wouldn't be worth it for me as I already have the CDA program under my belt, where I got mostly 90s. I'm not sure what other schools in the States would be good for Canadians. I'd also consider Australia, but it would be my last option. Sorry for the long post- I've been entering major panic mode lately and really want to start working towards something or hearing some advice/options! Thank you!

I'm just entering my second year at UVM if you have any questions! It is a great program, although if you don't get a scholarship it's pretty expensive.

Hey! I would love to know where you ended up or if you could shed light into the process of applying to the US as a Canadian. I am currently in that boat! Thanks!
