jmfriz Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Hi, finally I've to choose between two programs and I would some advise. 1.- MESM program. UCSB Bren. Corporate Environmental Management focal area. 2.- M.S. in natural resources and environment program. UMich SNRE. Sustainable Systems focal area. 3.- MEM program. Duke Nicholas. Global Environmental Change focal area. My main interest is the enhancing the link between the private and environment and adressing sustainability topics in a "shareholders value generating way". Thanks!
kiley Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I'm going to the Nicholas School in the fall - I'm not sure if you were at the admitted students weekend there, but it seemed like everyone that was considering other schools was deciding between these three schools and yale. Congrats on getting into these top programs! I can't really help you too much with your decision because I'm not sure exactly what the differences are for what you want to do specifically. It seems to me like there's a lot going on at Duke related to your interests, I'm not incredibly familiar with the programs at Bren or SNRE though. I can also tell you that I did my undergraduate at Michigan and loved it. Ann Arbor is a really cool place to live and SNRE is a great program. Have you visited any of the schools? Good luck!
breeze1220 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I am facing the EXACT same decision. While I feel that any advice I can give would not help in the least, know that I feel your pain and I wish you the best with your decision!
jmfriz Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 Thanks for the answers and good wishes! Because of geographical reasons -I'm from Chile- I haven´t been able to visit the different schools. I checked the Faculty profiles and the placement stats, but I think that because of the distance I might be obviating valuable information.
rising_star Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I imagine Duke is better known in Chile, though I could be wrong. jmfriz, are there particular faculty you are excited about working with? Courses you're excited about taking? Research projects you want to get involved with? If yes to any of those, then go to the school that has the opportunity you're most excited about, assuming the finances are the same at each.
boomshakalaka Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I have admits from MEM - Duke Nicholas MESM - UCSB Bren Master of Science in Environmental Management and Sustainability - IIT Chicago Stuart MPA - Indiana SPEA MS Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management - The New School Milano Any suggestions for what to choose among these?
