Hello Everyone!

This is my first time applying to Grad school which is also my first time using the CSDCAS site. I applied to TWU which is my DREAM school to get into the SLP grad program.

Anyways, my overall GPA is a 2.92 according to the CSDCAS calculated gpa and its low due to my undergrad (I started out as a nursing major that was a mess and then switched over to a linguistics major and I did not find out about speech language pathology until my last semester) after I graduated from uni, I went straight into a SLPA certification program and my CSD GPA is a 3.91 (boy does your grade change when its something you are interested in and love to learn about! haha) My last 60 credit hours GPA sums up to a 3.4. My question is, does anyone know which GPA does the program mainly look at it? Im scared that they will see my overall gpa and think wow she sucks and throw the whole thing away (not literally but maybe?)

Ive already submitted my application since its due  Jan 1st but I've been stressed out and scared since I really want to get into grad school in the Fall of 2020. (i've applied to other schools but TWU is my main one!)

Other random facts: Ill obtain my SLPA license in the spring 2020, i am bilingual hence the reason I applied to TWU bilingual track, Im currently doing my clinical observations at two schools in and wow is the need for spanish speaking therapists a huge deal. I've gotten LOR's from two SLPs and supervisor from work.

Thanks to anyone who responds!

Most schools focus on your GPA in the major, but they still take into account your overall. I don't really know how things work for that particular program though! You have a lot of really good experience by the sounds of it, but since your major GPA isn't low (it's actually really really good!) I would try not to worry too much. Especially if your GRE score balances it out

Hey Jackie!

My CSDCAS calculated GPA is far lower than my university GPA.

According to Indiana State University (my undergraduate institution), my overall GPA is a 3.75 and my CSD at 3.64. However, CSDCAS calculated my overall at 3.59 and my CSD at 3.20.

I contacted my professor who also wrote me a LOR freaking out and asked for advice. She told me some programs could potentially not review my application, however she strongly doubted it. She said she felt the admissions committees at all of my potential schools (Indiana State, Illinois State, Saint Mary’s, Murray State) were far more likely to consider and place weight in the supplemental materials over my GPA.

This professor is no liar- she’s fairly blunt, so I trust her advice and feeling that I (and you) will be just fine!

Let me know how this cycle works out for you!!!

@mhocking Hi Morgan!

Thank you for your response!! I was literally freaking out to everyone I know whenever I saw my overall GPA because I had calculated differently than what CSDCAS did. I hate that they calculated my repeats and failed courses. I want to reach out to the the program director from TWU about CSDCAS but im not sure how to word it haha but I mean they stated on their application this: "Admission Requirements for Successful Applicants: Minimum GPA of 3.0 required for last 60 hours, "

Im going to assume that I am good since my last 60 is a 3.4!  but thank you though, I like that your professor was blunt and im sure we will be just fine!

I will definitely let you know how it goes and you let me know too! ?

Jackie-

Happy to say I have my first acceptance from Indiana State University!  This is my undergraduate institution, but it does go to show our CSDCAS GPA is not everything!! Best of luck!
