Hi all,

I'm starting this thread for anyone who's waiting on applications to doctoral programmes in public policy/public affairs/public administration. I've applied to Duke, Michigan, IU Bloomington, Syracuse, UW Evans, Maryland, NYU and a couple of others. It's been deafening silence so far, so I'm eager to find out if others have started hearing back. I'm an international applicant, so a bit out of the loop.

Figured I would chime in:

I applied to a mix of public policy, public administration and public health PhD programs:

- Johns Hopkins: Public Health, Health Policy and Management, got in about two weeks ago.

- USC: Policy, rejected about a week ago.

- Syracuse: Public Administration, accepted on Friday.

- Indiana: Public Affairs, heard nothing.

- Duke: Policy, heard nothing.

The only one I am a little concerned about is Duke. They were my top choice for a long time (though I am very happy with JHU). Obviously didn't get an interview since they do those in Feb. and I have not heard anything. TBD which other pile I am in I suppose.

Congratulations on JHU and Syracuse! Did you have interviews at either before you received the decision?

Thanks for starting this! I applied to Duke (Pub Pol), Michigan (joint w/ Sociology), Harvard (Social Policy & Sociology), and Wisconsin (straight Soc). Only heard back from WI so far (rejection), but it seems from past years’ results like Sociology programs generally release earlier than policy ones.

I did have a Duke interview back in late January, and they told me to expect results in about 4 weeks, which would be the end of next week. Although I just saw on the results board that someone reported an acceptance via email yesterday?! Would love to know more about that if that person is reading! Just checked my portal and it all looks the same.

Good luck to all! Glad to know we are not alone in waiting purgatory...

Not really. I had a phone call with my advisor at JHU, but it was more her selling me on the program than anything. Had something similar with Syracuse, though even though she called it an interview it was mostly her telling me how well we fit. I went into both far more stressed that they were real interviews than I should have, haha.

Hi all! Thanks for starting this! I am a little bit anxious waiting for answers. I applied to public policy programs as well as education policy programs:

University of Kentucky - Martin School (accepted)

Columbia - Teachers College

Carnegie Mellon - Heinz

George Washington Univ. - GSEHD (Phone interview two weeks ago)

University of Washington - Evans

Georgia State - Andrew Young

Good luck!

Did anyone apply to Chicago Harris / heard back from them? I saw someone got accepted, but so far nothing on my portal.

I also did an interview with Duke late Jan. so was pretty hopeful, but haven't heard back yet.

I got an unofficial acceptance from Harris yesterday via phone call with the official letter to follow on Wednesday.

Hi,

I received acceptance from one of the phd public policy programs and I applied for funding. However, along with sending the acceptance to the phd program, the graduate admission team informed me that I am on a wait list for a graduate assistant position. What does it mean to be on a wait-list for a graduate assistant role? As funding is a core factor for me for accepting an offer, should I wait it out or pursue other options?

And, the Harvard rejection. Not a huge surprise but still extremely disappointed.

Has anyone heard from Michigan?

Hi, I got GW(U) too, but mine was no-funding offer.

Did you get any funding?

Nope, still waiting on a response from Michigan.

I think I’ll email tomorrow if there’s still no update. They said end of February!

Is there anyone who's applied to Syracuse Maxwell (public administration) and gotten a rejection / not yet heard back? Should I assume a rejection?

Hello, thank you for sharing with your status.

I am currently wailisted for Syracuse University which is my top choice.  It would be super grateful if you could decline the offer in case you are not willing to attend.

Thank you so much!!
