topaz998 Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 I was just accepted into my first choice, UC Davis! I had been waitlisted and I just got the notification today. I'm pursuing a degree in art history and UC Davis is also my undergrad school. I am now feeling a bit confused as to where to attend. When I was waitlisted, I quickly applied to other schools and I was also offered a place in Claremont Graduate School's program for a degree in Arts Management. It's super hard to compare the two programs. Davis focuses mainly on research and also offers TA positions, while CGU is more focused on getting professional experience. Its location is also really great, since it's so close to a ton of major museums. However, tuition is 30k/year (though I recieved a 10k/year fellowship) and Davis' TA program almost completely covers the cost of the masters. The reason I'm still stuck on CGU is because I'd be so close to my family, and I'd also be able to gain professional experience during grad school. Davis is further away from major museums and recommends we do not keep a job outside of school. I'm having trouble choosing between the two schools. On one hand, I know that Davis is a prestigious university and offers great funding. However, I'm nervous after hearing about so many UC TAs' experiences. As well, I'm worried I will not have as many professional opportunities as I would have at Claremont. Does anyone have advice? It would be so greatly appreciated.
