Hello world,

Hope everyone remains healthy.

I applied for the 2020 Fall PhD and received the following offer:

1. York University, Toronto, Canada

Funding: 43k$ per year

Length: 3.5 - 4 year

PhD in Mathematics and Statistics

Deadline to response: April 10 2020

2. Florida State University, USA

Funding: Self-fund first year and pending situation for the rest years (Basically, no)

Length: 5 year

PhD in Biostatistics

Deadline to response: April 15 2020

My long-term goal is industry. Teaching is my second option. Before I applied to the phd program I have already obtained my MS degree in Statistics and am currently working as a Biostatistician in Los Angeles.

I appreciate your advice! Or please share your experience with me. Thank you and wish everyone a successful and joyful 2020!

43C$ is enough to live in Toronto as far as I know. The rank of the two universities is high, FSU ranks higher but you should consider the department you're going to and the professors's work. So, ranking wise I don't think it might matter much, I think it all comes down to the program and cost. I don't think anything about math/stat or biostatistics, so consider what you like more and also consider the financing. Being a PhD students doesn't allow you to work on the side, you want to be comfortable so 43$ a year seems pretty great to me. Just make sure they will keep finding you till the end of your studies, because PhD in Canada can take on average 5-6 years ( I'm talking about my major "molecular genetics", I don't know about Math"

Wish you all the best.
