sadmackerel Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 (edited) Hi all - a little panicked right now... I was informed late last night that my PhD funding package offer at a state university (University of Arizona) has been rescinded due to expected drops in enrollment this fall. I'm fortunate to have a few other options where this has not (yet) occurred, but my top option currently is also at a state university with what I've been told are pretty significant fiscal issues (Berkeley). Has anyone else had their PhD funding packages just entirely rescinded?? Are other people anticipating similar things happening to their current offers? Edited April 8, 2020 by sadmackerel
unwelded Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 This is actually a pretty crazy situation. Can you give more details? Are you going to stick with Berkeley?
sadmackerel Posted April 9, 2020 Author Posted April 9, 2020 This Daily Nous post and comment thread probably describe the situation best. Unsure where I will go - Berkeley is the more intellectually and geographically exciting option, but I have an offer from another private university with significantly fewer risk factors (better fiscal situation, better placement, lower cost of living, etc. - though rumor has it that admins there just sent a request for departments look for places to cut, too).
