ciix Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Hello there! I'll be applying for Canadian MA programs in psychology and would like some advice about my real chances of getting in. I can't really tell how competitive my profile can be, specially as an international applicant. I'll apply for cognitive psychology or neuropsychology programs and my current status is as follows: Degrees: Bachelor degree in Psychology from one of the top programs at my country (Brazil) Biotechnology technical certificate Cumulative average from the Bachelor program: 8.7/10 (9/10 if considering only the last two years, as some grad programs usually do) Experience: 3 years as a clinical psychology intern (Neuropsychology) - Had experience at a social clinic, at schools and at a psychiatric institute. My experience is mostly focused on child and youth; 1 year as paid undergrad RA on a neuropsychology research; 1 year (current placement) as a volunteer RA on a developmental psychology research on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, being part of the neuropsychology team on the research. Assisted this research from the beginning; 1 year as a volunteer TA on subject called "Assessment, Methods and Techniques in Psychology"; 1 year (current placement) as a TA on a neuropsychology assessment graduate program. Was chosen as TA and awarded with a full scholarship for the program; Also had extensive experience (5 years) at laboratories as a biotechology technician. I'm currently working on a reference analysis center for Covid-19 in Brazil, one of the most affected countries in the world. Wrote an honours thesis called "The Use of Working Memory Cognitive Training in Children with ADHD" and got 10/10 for it. As it's written in portuguese, I'm on the process of translating it to english to try and publish it eventually. I haven't published anything yet, but had 3 academical presentations related to the neuropsychology researches I participated. I also attended 10 meetings and conferences related to this field, worked as a monitor for 2 of them (one being international). Haven't taken my IELTS and GRE exams yet (they're already scheduled), but considering official GRE practice tests I took, my quant will probably be around 162 and language around 156. I'll apply for the Universities of Toronto, Guelph, Manitoba and UBC. UBC would be my first choice. If any admitted student could help with some thoughts about my profile, it would be great!
