Hey all,

I'm a graduate student in Canada, and I'm considering going to the US to take the last of my required courses - not sure which university yet. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a wide range of costs for just one course (i.e. did anyone end up having to pay full tuition for a term?)? Were there any hidden costs you wish you'd known about beforehand?

Thanks!

Would you be attending as a non-degree student? If so, expect to pay $200-$300/unit at a state school. Not sure what costs are like at a private school.

As a non-degree student, I paid $230/unit (I think) for lecture courses and $300/unit for a lab course. I looked into costs in an adjacent state, since we were considering a move at the time, and the costs there were fairly similar.

In some private schools that i've looked up(USC, CMU), grad courses are about $500-1500 per credit(because you're an out of state student) and courses are usually 3-4 credits or 12 credits. overall course cost would be around $3500-$6000 per grad course for an out of state student.

Like the others said, it depends on the school, whether it's state or private, etc.

But YES to hidden fees! There will always be fees for labs, facilities, activities, etc. Universities always seems to manage to tack on an extra grand in fees.
