BDLSHD
Hi all, I'm middle-aged, and at a point in my life where I have the opportunity to make a complete change in careers. I have a business background and have held corporate and entrepreneurial roles, but will be changing course for a multitude of reasons. I'm strongly considering getting into mental health counseling and working toward eventually earning my LCSW or LPCC license. Mental health counseling has always been of strong interest to me. I have the time and money to go back to school to complete a Masters degree if I chose to do so, if I could find a program that would lend itself to meeting my personal goals. I'm leaning toward Social Work because of it's versatility in terms of different job opportunities, but I am also considering the possibility of applying to a Masters of Mental Health Counseling program since I'm pretty sure counseling is the route I'd like to pursue. Ultimately, as I age I'd like to have a profession I gain satisfaction from where I could possibly work part time when full-time money and benefits may not be necessary. I definitely think I could gain that professional satisfaction in the counseling field. While I have a fairly strong academic record (above 3.0 GPA) from undergrad, it's been a long time since I graduated and my degree isn't in a related field. I'm also not thrilled with the idea of taking the GRE or having to take a bunch of prerequisite coursework if I can at all avoid it. Due to my living situation, I would also prefer to attend a program that is delivered online. I'm specifically interested to know if anyone has attended or is attending the MSW online program at LSU? I'm also open to any other advice that one might have for me given my circumstances. Thanks!
julesevar
Most m.s.w. Programs only require a statistics course to apply. Gre is not usually considered at all. Edited September 25, 2020 by julesevar
BDLSHD
Thanks. Fortunately, I do have statistics courses as part of my undergrad coursework.
