gradpumpkin Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 (edited) I was wondering what everyone thinks about submitting vs. not submitting GRE scores this cycle granted that it's optional for most places. I know it will vary, but I'm wondering if it is better to submit not that great of a score (160-162V, 155-157Q, 5-5.5W) or to not submit at all since we have the option- especially for schools that post higher score averages. I think the other parts of my application are a lot stronger. Any thoughts? Edited October 21, 2020 by gradpumpkin
smug-face Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 I wouldn't send them to be honest. Those scores would be unlikely to help your application in a normal year, and this year there will be an additional selection effect where those who send scores will mostly have very good ones. gradpumpkin 1
NatSpit Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 @smug-face At what score level would you suggest sending them? My scores are 167V, 161O, which feels right on the borderline for some of the top-tier programs that are test-optional (MIT, Berkeley), so I'm a bit conflicted.

I think those scores are fine if you're not trying to be a Methods heavy person? smug-face 1
awfasano Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 I feel like if you are flirting with the 90th percentile you might as well send them. I got a 166Q 163V and am going to send them. sloth_girl 1
