pittphysicsstudent Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Avoid the University of Pittsburgh. The climate is abysmal, research opportunities are scarce, the attrition rate is high and yet most professors remain ignorant of the severe problems within their department. What other unis would you advise others to avoid?
SpoopyScholar Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Are you a Pitt student? I applied to their DevPsy doctoral program with a brand new faculty member. She hasn't had much experience with the university so I wasn't able to find out too much when we met.
SpoopyScholar Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Nevermind! I just read your username. Ha!
OmniWheel Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 (edited) Honestly looks like I dodged a bullet here. I put a lot of effort into applying to University of Pittsburgh, and after submitting my app emailed a professor I was interested in. His response the next day was that the department isn’t even accepting astrophysics/cosmology students (which is my field)!! it was free for domestic applicants, but international students are still paying $75. I searched their website and nowhere is this listed. It feels immoral to me that the school would charge money for students to apply, then the department rejects them because of a research interest which their website clearly advertises. pittphysicsstudent Posted February 1, 2021 Author Posted February 1, 2021 Congratulations! I guarantee you dodged a bullet. I agree, that is immoral. Curious who you emailed. I have some guesses OmniWheel 1
