umundergrad Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 (edited) Hi, everyone! I have two questions:) 1. Does anyone here have experience with transitioning from an "anthropology adjacent" field to anthro? Did this cause any issues for you? Do you have any tips on how to talk about this kind of transition in an SOP? Note: I've done two field schools and have published a single-authored, peer-reviewed archaeology article, but my B.A. and current M.A programs are in history. I've been taking a few archaeology classes, but I'm still nervous about applying alongside students with BAs and/or MAs in anthropology. I feel like I won't be able to "compete" 2. I'm looking for competitive anthro programs with a medieval archaeologist who preferably focuses on northwestern Europe (especially the British Isles) and/or gender. So far, Notre Dame, William and Mary, Northwestern, and Cornell have caught my eye. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Edited December 23, 2020 by umundergrad grammar
アミル Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 To your first question, If your statement of purpose reflects an understanding of current literature in anthropology then you should be fine. You should also demonstrate in concrete terms why you're making the transition. If you have a published article that puts you ahead of many applicants anyway, so I wouldn't sweat it. umundergrad 1

I'm probably overthinking this a bit due to stress. Thank you for your response:)
