Should I email the potential advisor who I have communicated with before applying to ask about my application status?

Hi all, 

The program I applied to says they would start to send out offers from mid January and since it's now February, I am thinking maybe I should contact my potential advisor to ask about it. I have talked with him through Skype in Nov and he said he was impressed and encouraged me to apply. But he also said it doesn't mean anything because I have to be selected by the committee first and I could mention his name in the personal statement. 

What I hope to do with this email is that:

1) Remind him of myself because I haven't talked to him since that meeting. 2) Tell him I am still very interested in his group (it's actually my only hope). 3) Remind him to get my materials from the committee if he hasn't read my application. 4) Hopefully he could support my application in the committee.

My question is that whether I should email him and if so how should I write such an email? Thank you so much!
