USC waitlist sound optimistic?

Hi guys! Congratulations to those who have been accepted to schools so far and all the very best to those who are still waiting! Fingers crossed! 
 

I was waitlisted by USC earlier today and the waitlist email sounded particularly optimistic. I was told “we don’t have a numerical ranking but we certainly do have strong continuing interest in your candidacy.” When I wrote back, I was told that “I do think there is a decent chance you will get an offer.” 
 

Have those of you who have been waitlisted at USC too received similarly optimistic notes? Or do I get to be just a little bit hopeful because of this wording?

I received the exact same wording in the email regarding interest in my candidacy, but I didn’t specifically ask about my chances so I can’t say whether or not I would have received something similar in that regard! But it seems as though the initial email was identical to all those on the waitlist!

What program was this for? I was also waitlisted this morning, though via slightly different wording. They informed me that several candidates would likely be admitted off the waitlist.

@annawwwwwwwwthis is for the PhD in philosophy. Are you talking about the PhD in Phil too?

@NeedAnAcceptance Yes!! I am thrilled to have gotten into SFU! Knowing that we have that as a "back up" is really quite a luxury, since their program has such a great reputation and it seems like I would really enjoy it. Here's hoping we can get off some waitlists, though!
