visiting lecturer, visiting professor, adjunct professor?

I took two classes by two visiting lecturers last fall and this winter they became visiting professor and adjunct professor relatively.

I'm confused if this changes mean they were promoted or demoted and how I call them - professor or not?

Two are not teaching at another institutions as far as I know.
