Applying for a PHD program in Immunology, Low GRE

I just took the GRE today and score pretty poorly despite memorizing all 500 words of the pratice and doing numerous practice tests. my GPA is 3.23 for my major (Microbiology) and I scored a 810 on the GRE. I have reserach experience and even have manuscript pending to be published. I am still currently working in lab. I'm wondering if it is even worth my time to take it again, or if I will still have a chance to get into schools such as Vanderbilt/ UT houston Graduate school of Biomedical science.

Just wondering if anyone else has some adivce or has had a similar experience.

I scored a 810 on the GRE.

I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I think you'd almost be REQUIRED to take the GRE again with that score. You ARE referring to the general GRE and not one of the subject tests?

Maybe someone with more experience will have some advice for you, but I think you should try again (especially if you feel that this score does not accurately reflect your capabilities).

Look at your schools, but many Ph.D. programs require a minimum score, often at least 1200. Some schools take your undergraduate GPA and your GRE score and use that to weed out weaker applicants. Despite a solid application and great LORs, your application probably wouldn't even make it to the review stage with that GRE score.

Keep practicing. When you re-take the exam, take your time on the first ten questions of each section. Answer these correctly. Your score will improve. Good luck!
