displayName1248 Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 (edited) Undergrad: Public university ranked 60s overall, 40s for CS, math and 20s in stats Major: Computer Science, Applied Mathematical Sciences Minor: Statistics GPA: 3.88 (likely to change to 3.9 by the end of this semester) Type of Student: Asian/White Male Program: Biostatics PhD Research Experience: Currently doing research under my machine learning professor to analyze how effective models that are created using the data from large teaching hospitals are when used on smaller non-teaching hospitals. He said that he will work with me to get this published a bit after the semester ends. I have researched planned with my mathematical probability professor in mathematical biology (ecology) who is also going to help me with publishing it. For my last year I have to do research for both semesters with a thesis and I have confirmed with my machine learning professor that I am doing it with him. However, the exact subject it will be in is TBD, but it will most likely be relating to data regarding hospitals. Not as relevant: I wrote a report on COVID and how I tried to adapt it to the SIR model as my honors research project in diff eq and I did a semester of research with NASA but nothing too substantial happened there. LOR: I will ask for a letter from my machine learning professor since he works in healthcare and one from my mathematical probability professor since he does a lot of research in mathematical biology. By the time I am applying I will have done research with both of them. I am yet to find the last one. Courses: Computer Science: Intro to Programming Design (A), Honors DS&A (A), Programming Languages (B), Computer Organizations (A), Computer Systems (A), Programming Studio Honors (Expected A), Machine Learning Honors (Expected A), Graduate Analysis of Algorithms (Spring 2022), Operating Systems (Spring 2022), Graduate Artificial Intelligence (Fall 2022), Graduate Quantum Algorithms (Spring 2023), Graduate Software Engineering (Spring 2023), (if it is offered Graduate Computational Biology) Math: Calc 1 Honors (A), Calc 2 (A), Calc 3 (A), Discrete Honors (A), Diff Eq Honors (A), Linear Algebra Honors (B), Algebra 1 (A), Elliptic Curve Cryptography Honors (Expected A), Mathematical Probability Honors (Expected A), Real Analysis Honors (Spring 2022), Graduate Mathematical Modeling (Spring 2022), Graduate Numerical Analysis (Fall 2022), Graduate Topological Data Analysis (Spring 2023), (likely one other graduate class before graduation) Statistics: Stat 1 (B), Stat 2 (A), Machine Learning Honors (Expected A), Linear Models (Spring 2022), Biostatistics (Fall 2022) All of my B's were at one semester where my mental health was very poor. Work Experience: Summer 2022 internship within data analysis with a F100 company. Student assistant during the school year and some summers. Involvement: Director for a large service and social org, in the university symphonic winds program throughout college. Notes: Hi thanks for reading this far. I was wondering what programs would be safeties/reaches for me, since I really don't know how to compare myself. I am planning on applying to Rice, Baylor College of Medicine, Vanderbilt, however I don't know exactly what places are possibilities for me. Also if there is anything I can do to help my application please let me know. Edited November 8, 2021 by displayName1248

I would apply to literally any biostat program. Top few aren't guaranteed but your profile is very good so I'd apply to most schools in the top 10. displayName1248 1
