serpentstone Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 Asking people for reference or recommendations is one of the most nerve-wracking aspects of applications for schools/jobs ever for me ? I have no experience in seeing how other people do it, or have done it, and I have no idea what the etiquette is surrounding recommendation requests. That being said, I finally got the courage to ask three amazing professors for recommendations back in August which they each submitted to my schools very promptly. I thanked them profusely, took my GRE, finalized applications, and several months have now passed since then. However, I discovered a scholarship I would really like to apply for, which also requires three recommendations. Is it appropriate to dive into another request from them? Should I choose other recommenders? The anxiety of asking them to write another recommendation after they have already done one for me is petrifying. Like, what kind of wording could I use so it doesn't appear that I just wantwantwant from them? Should I make it part of a larger letter, or just have the email be an outright request? Maybe I am overthinking this ? Any advice would be so absolutely phenomenal. I keep putting off asking and the scholarship end date is drawing closer and closer from my stalling.
PsyDuck90 Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 Professors write recommendation letters all the time. It's part of their job. Also, if they already wrote one for you recently for grad school, it will take them all of a few minutes to adapt it to a scholarship and send it off. I would just send a brief email thanking them for their letters and asking if they would be willing to send an additional letter for this scholarship. serpentstone 1

Because I don't understand the process, I guess I just imagine anything I ask to be a major strain. Very appreciated.
kristinneedsanoffer Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 I face the exactly same question as you. I have asked the professors to upload recommendation letters for many universities. They may think it's all done yet. However, I still need to apply more schools and I feel so bad to ask them again. Well, I think it's the fear we need to beat. Ask one more letter won't be a great deal. Even though we get rejection, it won't be worse than not asking at all.
