MebiggyNooby
I am a complete wreck. I have applied to six grad schools. NONE of them have replied. I come here and find that people have begun recieving admits by the hundreds. My job has become pathetic after I informed my boss about my decision to go to grad school. No interesting work is being given to me, I get all the trash work there is. .... Is it time to hit the panic button? Anyone else in this situation? Accepted: Zilch Waiting: CMU, NCSU, UMD, Rutgers, T A&M, NJIT(My failsafe) Damn, I gotta come up with a plan B.

FastForward
cheer up ! you are not alone. I am sure there are many people who share your feelings (I do). I also informed my boss about my decision to go to grad school (i had to, since I had someone in the company write me a reference letter)... so very soon I will feel quite ridiculed for having all my rejections at hand, and i will have to do all that publicly, since I've also told everyone that march 15 was THE DATE. I am trying to change the way i see it though. maybe i was not meant to start my phd this year. maybe i will be better of doing lab research this year and applying next (and this time with strong enough credentials to make me the decision-maker). I will start making my plan B at the end of this month. it will be tough, but hey, not tougher than this cheers
MebiggyNooby
Boo Yeah! An admit from NJIT is on the way. Even though it was my last choice among the universities I have applied to. I now have an option to fall back on. Any one has any idea how good the university is? I liked the program and the research going on in the Software Engineering department. UMD Rant: Maryland is supposed to be one among the top universities in the US. The status on the website says that a decision has been made regarding the application and will be snail mailed to me in two or three weeks. They also provide a link to check the application status. I am not able to login to check my status. I get an error message asking me to contact the webmaster. There is an Email address and a phone number, both of which are non functional. E Mails bounce and on phone I get an error message saying its a non working number. Great; I am going to die of aneurysm in a couple of days. Plea to CMU: Oh please send me an admit. Please, pretty please! They have the *best* program ever. I would sell half my soul for an admit there. To people who have received an admit there: beware of the green monster. *Edited to rectify typos.

Cheers to waiting indefinitely while chewing our fingers to little stubs. So any response yet? In the worst case scenario, do you think that if you get rejects from all your programs will you be able to continue with your current job like nothing ever happened? maa
To MebiggyNooby, There may be two reasons for your failure to log in at UMD. 1. The UID is actually UMCP ID. It is given at "Verify Contact Information" page at your apra account. The password is your date of birth (mmddyy). 2. Testudo site is not operational 24X7. They have downtime. I dont know the exact timing. Hope this helps.
adstatus
Glad to know I'm not the only one driving myself and everyone around me insane waiting for a reply. Any one else waiting to hear from the Oklahoma State Spears School of Business?
MebiggyNooby
Yep. You are right, I was logging in with the wrond ID. I actually sent them like a million mails to check up and finally ended up calling them and discovered that it was my stupidity. By what cracks me up is that after all that effort, I was rejected. The status says "Not recommended for admission". I am wondering if its polite to call them and ask them for a reason. Being rejected SUCKS. In one day I lost all my confidence and slid into a depression.
StudyMom
Definitely ask why you were not recommended for admission. It may be something that you can't change (like GPA) or something you could change (like GRE scores or your SOP). I always like to know why and it might shed some light on the whole admission process roulette -- you know -- "well we threw the applications down the stairs and yours landed on step three. We accepted those on steps one and five"! Best of luck.
commoner
Being rejected SUCKS. In one day I lost all my confidence and slid into a depression. I had been doing OK with my rejections. Until this Monday. Ruined my St. Pat's day festivities. Since, I have slid into a surly depression. Still have 6 more decisions to arrive, and one waitlist to hope for. But I've lost all enthusiasm at this point.
brooks
I applied to 10 univ. 2 of them answered both worthless. 1 rejected and the other accepted without funding. I understand you very well. Anyone here has idea when is the deadline for phd results ( in common) ?
