  1. Congrats! We are very excited about this new adventure. Best of luck to you!
  2. Yes, we'll be moving there this summer too - SIGHT UNSEEN! YIKES. We are going down the first week of June to house hunt and check out the elemenatry schools. We are excited, but very freaked out! Are you starting a PhD or Masters program in Pscyh? I'm Marketing - consumer behavior PhD, so we might take a seminar or two together.
  3. Received an offer from this school today! Research assistantship and tuition waiver.
  4. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Does anyone else feel like you're the ugly, pimple-faced kid at the prom that NOBODY wants to dance with? I'm at or near the top of the wait list of my #3 choice - they've made two offers that they don't expect will be accepted but can't move forward until those are declined (applicants are probably holding out until tomorrow). If they extend me an offer, I will definitely accept. I assume I'm wait listed at my #1 pic, but have not heard ANYTHING from them. My application status has read, "Thank you for submitting your application. Your decision is not yet available." since DECEMBER! Since I've not even received an email from them I am assuming I'm WAY DOWN on the wait list. Officially wait listed at my #5 choice, but haven't had any interview, just a brief email from the phd coordinator. I assume I'm not at the top of their list either. Had an interview with one of my safety schools that felt more like them trying to convince me why I should go there rather than why I thought I'd be good fit for their program. PhD coordinator confidently told me that she would get back to me with a decision in a day or two. That was two weeks ago and I've not heard a word. I am assuming that they didn't think I would accept an offer if they made it, so they extended offers to others. Not sure what's going on there. PhD coordinator seemed very nervous on the phone interview and was completely stumped when I asked her "what makes your program unique compared to other programs that you compete with?" I thought it was a relevant question. She stumbled for about five minutes and said "ummm..." a lot! I took it as a bad sign. Accepted at my second safety school, but at this point no funding, which means NO THANK YOU. PhD coordinator said he'd get back to me today with any additional information about if funding might become available.
  5. I've been pretty soured by the whole process. It is what it is and I don't begrudge anyone who wants to hold out until the last minute to make sure they are making the best decision. Hell, I'd love to be in their shoes. The thing is, the lack of any information really puts your life on hold. The kids keep asking, "Dad, where are we going to go to school next year? Are we going to sell our house? Are we going to live in an apartment? blah blah blah" and I keep having to tell them that I don't have an f-ing clue! I really expected that I would know where I was headed, if anywhere, by the end of March. I never anticipated sitting here on April 13th with my thumb up my rear still not knowing WHERE or IF I'm going to get a PhD. ----sigh---- sorry for the rant.
  6. So it' April 13th and no word from any of my wait lists. I have one offer in hand, but no funding (but could open up if an offer gets declined), and I'm wait listed at 4 other programs. One program says they have offers outstanding, but they don't expect that they will be accepted, which would then open their wait list, which I'm at the top of. Two other programs I'm not sure where I stand on the wait list. The final program I'm at or near the top of their wait list and they have one offer outstanding. I think I wouldn't care about this dragging on past April 15th so much if I hadn't busted my ass to get all of my applications in to meet the early deadlines in December! Oh well. For those holding on to offers, good luck in your decisions and I hope the ones you decline are ones I'm waiting for! Can't wait until all this falls out and everyone can post where they're going in the fall!
  7. I was in the same place you are and totally feel your pain. Some great advice that was given to me was this - why worry about it? If they've already contacted you, then it is very unlikely that they have suddenly lost your email or forgotten about you. If they are going to admit you, they'll get in touch with you - after all, you still have to accept their offer, right? Otherwise, it will be a reject and no amount of stressing out or pestering them will make that reality any different. It could actually be that if you bug them enough, it may hurt your position. You never know what the process is on the other side. They system runs slow. Look at it this way - April 15 is next week, so something HAS to happen by then. You've just got another week or so to tough it out, so put the app process on auto pilot and give yourself a break to enjoy the spring weather. Best of luck to you!
  8. Received an update from my top pick (of the schools I haven't been rejected from already) that they have made offers for their only 2 slots for next year; however, they expect at least one -- maybe both -- to turn them down. I was told I am on a very short list of go-to candidates should that happen. While it's not an ADMIT, I'll take it. Hopefully better news will follow.
  9. I'll be 44 later this month. I applied to 10 programs in marketing. So far, all I really know is that I've been flatly rejected by 5 programs and am wait listed at 2 others. Two of the remaining 3 programs were lower-tier safety schools, but I feel pretty good about getting in, but am not too sure about funding. The final school I have heard absolutely nothing from, and apparently neither has anyone else in any of the forums here or on urch. Given the competitive nature of the business schools, I was told very directly by one of my referrers that my age will be an issue. I have very solid credentials, but the same student with 10-15 FEWER years of industry experience would always have an edge over me. Bummer. All in all, I'll take any admit as long as there is sufficient funding that I can supplement with student loans (still have to support the family). Otherwise, its back to business and time to put the PhD dream to bed. It's in God's hands now...
  10. Students are required to notify schools of their intentions by April 15. It is conceivable that a candidate held out until the last day to decline an offer of admission. That would open a slot for a wait listed applicant. So you COULD get into a program you are wait listed on AFTER April 15th. I think that is probably rare, but I have heard it happens. Likewise, I've seen some rejections go out around April 12-14th or so on the results page. This to me indicates that these were wait listed applicants who were held in queue until the last minute when someone finally accepted an offer. It sucks, but it is common for folks to receive several offers, but hold on to them to see if something better comes down the line. In the process, they hold up the entire process for everyone else. One of my referrers recommended that if I get multiple offers to decline any that I know I don't really want to go to asap and to make a decision by April 1st as to where I wanted to go so as to not hold up the process for everyone else. At this point, I'll take one "ADMIT". As it is, I've got 5 rejects, 1 scheduled interview, 2 positive phone conversations with PhD coordinators and 0 admits. I guess the good news is that in 3 weeks this damn process will be over with one way or another.
  11. Same boat here - marketing phd. At this point I have to assume I am an outright reject or a very soft waitlist. At any rate I'm bummed. UNC was my top pic.
  12. Just a side bar: anyone completely bugged by EVERYONE asking "Have you heard anything yet?" NO DAMMIT. I'VE BEEN FORMALLY REJECTED 5 TIMES, IF THAT COUNTS AS "HEARING SOMETHING"!!! Sorry, just had to vent!
  13. I'm still waiting on a few as well. Received a form letter rejection in snail mail yesterday from UT austin (marketing). Still no word at all from my top choice, but since they are higher ranked than any of the schools I've already been rejected by, I assume that they are a reject as well. That leaves me with 4 schools. One I have an interview with on Monday. Another I've spoken with the PhD coordinator and had an informal interview with a few weeks ago. A third I received a call from their PhD coordinator who was checking to see if I was "still available". It was very positive and she was very enthusiastic about my profile, but said, "this is just me. I have to convince my colleagues...". Still praying that they call back with a flyout offer or interview schedule. They were my #3 pic. Fourth and final school haven't heard a word. I've emailed the marketing admin a few times and she referred me to the PhD coordinator. I've emailed twice in the last 3 weeks with no response whatsoever. I'm assuming they are a reject at this point too. This late in the game, I'd have to say that no word at all is equivalent to a rejection. There is the slight possibility of being waitlisted, but I'm not holding my breath.
  14. Hey Behavioral. Congrats on the Leeds admit. Hope the Admit day at Northwestern goes well. Still waiting on any info here -- gotta get all of you rock stars out of the way for us 2nd and 3rd tier candidates! LOL. If I get any interviews or admits I'll be sure to get in touch!
  15. I don't see a problem contacting the school if there is not a mechanism in place for them to communicate with you -- applyyourself.com for instance. Most programs have some sort of online system, but some don't. I check the online systems daily (some times MANY times a day *embarrassed*). However, two of the programs I applied to do not have any online system to check status. I emailed the PhD coordinators at those programs just for an update. One was very quick to reply and said they would be sending out interview invites "soon". She actually used to quote marks! She also invited me to email her back if I didn't hear anything in a couple of weeks. The other school didn't respond at all. Long story longer - if they have an online status check don't bug 'em. Sit tight and an answer will be forthcoming. If they don't, a friendly and EXTREMELY brief email requesting an update is not out of line.
