I've been working in military public affairs for 20 years...I have a decade on you as far as age. I'm applying to one program and am interested in the intersection of org. comm. and social media. I went back for my Masters in 1999 after being out of school for 6 years, but was still full-time military. I received my Masters in 2002 and would really like to build on my academic and work experience, get a PhD to build my research and theoretical expertise, and eventually apply it in the classroom and through research consulting work. I have found in my military experience that I really enjoy mentoring our junior mass communication specialists and public affairs officers -- I hope to translate that to the academic environment. It looks like I wasn't on first round select list, but there is still a small chance...though I feel a bit like Jim Carey's character in Dumb and Dumber when his friend is trying to be realistic about dating Mary: "So your telling me I have a chance!!!" I hope I'm not too disillusional. Good luck to you! Fingers crossed you get what you want.
