  1. Accepted off the waitlist today! Fingers crossed that it works out as everyone wants.
  2. Yeah!!! Hopefully I'll get off the waitlist soon and join you in the Fall! Congratulations.
  3. Mine used those same words, and I am clinging to them... After those words in a note and a conversation with him, I interpret it as: - Would love to have you in the program - Can't provide any promises - Based on previous years experience with 1st round/waitlist process you stand a good shot - BUT every year is unique, so ultimately caution is prudent I just pray that the first rounders yeah or nay very soon -- the wait is SO distracting.
  4. I worked full time (40-50 hr/week) as a director of Public Relations and went to school full time when I got my Masters...all of the classes were in the afternoon/evening. My boss was understanding as he was pursuing a PhD. I used vacation days before big exams and was at school every day after work and most weekends.
  5. I would use Facebook groups to manage this -- it's really handy for this kind of situation.
  6. If you are having trouble saying no to people, just think of the fact that for those of us on waitlists for our top program, you're relieving someone else of the tension of the wait... And there are some great suggestions on how to clearly communicate your "no" here that should make it very understandable to the receiver. What a great position to be in. Congrats to all who have made their decisions!
  7. I heard from USC Annenberg today saying their first round had gone out but I'm pre-approved if a slot opens up. I only applied to their program, so fingers crossed. While not always true, I believe last year all of the "second round" pre-approved candidates eventually were admitted to the program.
  8. I've been working in military public affairs for 20 years...I have a decade on you as far as age. I'm applying to one program and am interested in the intersection of org. comm. and social media. I went back for my Masters in 1999 after being out of school for 6 years, but was still full-time military. I received my Masters in 2002 and would really like to build on my academic and work experience, get a PhD to build my research and theoretical expertise, and eventually apply it in the classroom and through research consulting work. I have found in my military experience that I really enjoy mentoring our junior mass communication specialists and public affairs officers -- I hope to translate that to the academic environment. It looks like I wasn't on first round select list, but there is still a small chance...though I feel a bit like Jim Carey's character in Dumb and Dumber when his friend is trying to be realistic about dating Mary: "So your telling me I have a chance!!!" I hope I'm not too disillusional. Good luck to you! Fingers crossed you get what you want.
  9. I'm waiting on USC too...if previous years are any indicator, looks like it may be mid-March before more hear from USC. It's my only application and I'm a non-trad student, so I can't hold my breath (but I can keep my fingers crossed). Good to know that I'm not suffering the wait alone
