finalcountdown Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 (edited) Hi there, I am a journalist in India with 4 years' experience. Completed my masters in development communication in India and have a bachelors degree in commerce (accounting). I have an inclination towards film history, criticism and research, with Bollywood (Indian film industry) as a primary focus. Finally zeroed in on the subject for my PhD research which is film censorship. Was thinking of applying to cinema studies departments earlier. But considering my background (with no MFA degree) it seems I should aim for critical studies or rhetoric. Also, I've seen developmental studies departments in some schools like Wisconsin-Madison. Is it a reputed school? what are the career prospects of passing out from it? That college has some Indian profs doing similar research, which may improve my chances of getting in. What other schools/departments can I apply to? Does anyone know profs working on similar studies.. I'll be giving my GRE next month. Lotsa work to do Anyone else aiming for PhD in films in 2011? Hows the prep coming along. Edited July 10, 2010 by phdfromabad finalcountdown 1
Murthy Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Hi Nice to hear your interest in Films, by the way am pursuing my PhD program , I just registered and planning to do my thesis on movies....well am a MBA with marketing as my specialisation and wish to do something about movie marketing in the new era...or something like that, the title is not yet frozen...sadly there is not many people who can support a research something like this....I approached many guides , they all suggest me to something on branding food products, or consumer behaviour of rural india , there has been enough work on these areas though. Hey there, someone suggest me to find a suitable guide who can help me in research work on movies.....
Murthy Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 any thoughts from others........................?????
doublefilm Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Hi! I would definitely look into Indiana University's journalism school (one of the best in the country!) and their media studies (through communication and culture and telecommunications). I'm currently in my undergrad here, and know these programs are excellent. The professors are really top notch. They also have excellent production facilities in the Telecommunications dept if you are interested in getting technical! Hope that helps! Chelsey
