Asking for a friend: his AOIs are in political and social philosophy, as well as ethics. Currently on the waitlists for both schools, and he's debating which one he should pursue more aggressively. Stanford might be more prestigious school-wise (and also have several faculties that he is interested in studying with) but northwestern seems to have a nice faculty cohort on critical theory and political philosophy. How do you aggressively pursue a place where you have been waitlisted? I was waitlisted at UCR and rejected (or presumably rejected) from everywhere else.
